Which cards qualify for a refund
Never-charged cards return their whole balance. Charged cards qualify only with a large balance left, less a commission. Fees stay paid.
Only the balance on a card can come back. Issue fees and load charges are not refunded. The full rules are in the Refund Policy; this is the practical summary.
Never charged: the whole balance
If nothing has ever been taken from the card, you can ask for everything on it. No commission is taken. Reloaded money counts as part of the balance.
Charged: only with $500.00 or more left
Once a card has been charged for anything, including a small verification charge, it qualifies only while at least $500.00 is left. You then get the balance less a 10% commission, and the card is closed.
Charged with less left
There is no refund, but the card keeps working. Spend the balance until it expires.
What counts as charged
Any purchase, subscription payment, pre-authorisation or verification charge, even one that was reversed later. Saving the card at a merchant without a charge does not count.
Checking a card
The refund page shows, for each card, whether it qualifies and what you can expect back. Under Cards, a card that has been charged carries a Charged before label.
Cards that cannot be refunded right now
- the card is frozen or under investigation;
- a reload of the card is still in progress;
- a refund request for the card is already open.
To ask, see Ask for a refund.
